Cisco's CCNA 200-301 certification is getting an update in February 2027, and many networking students are wondering whether they should complete the current exam or prepare for the new version. According to Cisco's announced schedule, CCNA v1.1 will retire on February 2, 2027, and CCNA v2.0 will launch on February 3, 2027. Although the exam version is changing, the certification remains the same. Candidates who pass the current exam will not need to retake it simply because a newer version becomes available.

What's Changing in CCNA v2.0?
The updated exam continues to cover essential networking knowledge while introducing greater attention to modern networking practices.
Important preparation areas include:
Practical Troubleshooting: Understanding network connectivity problems and resolving configuration issues.
Network Security: Learning access controls, segmentation, and secure network management.
AI and Automation: Understanding how modern technologies support network operations.
Hands-On Networking: Developing practical skills in routing, switching, and troubleshooting.
Should You Take CCNA v1.1 or Wait?
If you have already completed most of your CCNA preparation, taking v1.1 before the retirement date may be a practical option. However, if you are just beginning your networking journey, preparing for CCNA v2.0 could give you more time to understand the updated objectives. Regardless of the version, practical labs, subnetting exercises, network simulations, and consistent revision remain essential.
